Before the SideCar system is put in service or water run into RBC tank for wet test, air supply piping must be blown out to expel debris.
This is accomplished by flushing the supply lines and SideCar manifolds with 100 FPS (6000
FPM) velocity air after selectively closing isolating valves on some SideCars while leaving end caps off one-fourth of the RBC’s. Starting with the SideCar(s) nearest the blower(s) blow out the system for 5 minutes then moving to the next zone until all are cleaned.
CAUTION: DO NOT PLACE HANDS OR FACE IN PATH OF EXHAUST AIR. WEAR EYE PROTECTION. HIGH VELOCITY PARTICLES CAN CAUSE INJURY.
GUIDELINES FOR CLEANING SideCar AIR SUPPLY PIPING:
Size Air Main | ~ CFM AIR |
4″ | 550 |
6″ | 1200 |
8″ | 2100 |
10″ | 3300 |
12″ | 4700 |
If system cannot provide the air flow or conditions do not permit, flush with max air available and target air flow of 300 CFM through each SideCar manifold.
For small systems with one (1) RBC and SideCar run both DUTY and STAND BY blowers to maximize air flow.
